Living on Gozo

The little sister of Malta is with 64 km² one fifth of the main island of the archipelago. From Victoria, the island capital, woman reaches all villages from coast to coast in twenty minutes by local bus. On Gozo we find villages on the hills and in the valleys, as well as on the coast, with harbours and beaches. In her surroundings, women wander through beautiful gardens, vineyards and fields. Forests missed woman so far - the government has started a program. Under the motto “Malta is turning green" forests are to be created. Agriculture is the most important economic sector on Gozo, sixty percent of the food for Malta comes from here. Many cottages are located on the coast, but they are also found on the hills. They are mostly used by the inhabitants of the main island Malta, but also the individual tourism with riding, diving and cycling are typical for these areas. There are no big hotel complexes here. Fishing is only interesting for the local market and the fishermen use their boats mainly for tourist tours around the island. Sandy beaches can be found in Marsalforn, Xlendi and a large one in the bay of Ramla, even with dune! Swimming and diving can be done anywhere on the coast, stairs and ladders lead into the sea. The social life of the island is quiet, comfortable and cozy. Neighbourhood and support are very important. This social life with the helping hands, local associations and the life around the church, a quick cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the bar, characterise the togetherness on the island.
